Welcome to My Personal Page
I recently accepted the challenge of participating in Brian Connor's Rice Lake Challenge benefiting Jesse's Journey. I will be walking from Cobourg to Gores Landing, a distance of 22 kms on August 12th with my friend Tammy and our husbands Kevin and David.
Jesse's Journey (The Foundation for Gene & Cell Therapy) is dedicated to funding the most promising research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In Canada, one in every 5,000 boys suffer from Duchenne. Few of these young boys will survive beyond their mid-20's. For them, research to find a cure is the road to hope.
Brian and other swimmers will complete a 4.5 kilometer treck across Rice Lake, cyclist will be riding the 100 kms perimeter around Rice Lake and local residents will be encourage to join in "Tylers Walk, a 3 or 6 kilometer walk around the village of Gores Landing.
The Challenge is held annually in memory of Brian's brothers, Kevin & Terry who had Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
In August 2016 during the weekend of the Rice Lake Challenge, I was exposed to many families who have or have had family members with this disease. I saw first hand how families struggle as well as the love they have for each other.
My goal this year is to raise $1000 to support the fight of this disease, as well, to lighten the load for families. Any amount, great or small helps in the fight to #defeatduchenne. I greatly appreciate the support and will keep you posted on my progress!
